About Us

Keith and Kati Johnson founded Test Prep Mom—also known as The ACT Mom—during the summer of 2015. What had been a private undertaking became public when Kati started sharing the story of her family’s ACT prep journey. Her oldest son had just scored in the 98% percentile of all test takers and was awarded a full tuition merit scholarship to college. 

From 2015 to 2020, Kati taught small groups of classes—as well as her other two children still at home—including one whom she homeschooled. During those five years, she taught over 3000 students in 250 classes. Her two children at home also scored in the 97% and 99% percentile of all test takers, resulting in over $200,000 in merit scholarships in total for her children. 

In the summer of 2025, the Kentucky Department of Education chose the SAT as its primary vendor for standardized testing. Kati is now excited to be teaching BOTH SAT and ACT classes. Students who have taken the PSAT at their schools have experienced the adaptive form of the digital SAT.

Keith manages the online class, the online registration program, and the website. Kati speaks, teaches, encourages, and counsels. Keith has a Master’s Degree in Ministry from Moody Bible Institute and is completing his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Columbia International University in December 2025. Kati has a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Asbury Theological Seminary. As undergraduates, they attended Birmingham Southern College (ΣΝ) and The University of Kentucky (ΧΩ) respectively. They live in a small town outside of Lexington, Kentucky, and recently welcomed their first grandchildren—twin girls—in December 2023.
